It’s a trap review this time! Hideyoshi’s definitely a figure quite a few people had been waiting for throughout the fall and wintertime, myself included. Let’s see how he stacks up!
Baka to test to shoukanjuu was a show I really loved during the winter 2010 anime season. As such, I really liked Hideyoshi and I found his dilemma of being a trap… while not actually being a trap, to be pretty hilarious. When Alter announced that they would be making a Hideyoshi figure, I was really excited and I couldn’t wait to pre-order him, and then get him in the mail!
When I finally got him, I noticed right off the bat that he’s quite the cutie.
I have very few complaints with his overall sculpt and paint, as per usual with Alter figures. They really know what they’re doing, and they’ve definitely been keeping it up!

I find his pose to be pretty entertaining, almost like the male version of that 1/8 Asa from Kotobukiya. Though I am aware that Koto’s Asa was taken directly from the bathroom scene in the show, whereas I don’t believe Hideyoshi had this specific pose anywhere in Bakatest (correct me if I’m wrong, I haven’t re-watched the show since it came out).
The only real downside of a pose like this is that he can’t really be viewed except in the direction he’s facing. Any other angle really makes him look a tad odd, especially with all of his hair. A lot of the shots I took at different angles ended up just looking awkward.
I do like the fact that they sculpted him without his shoes, seeing as he wouldn’t be able to get his pants over the shoes after removing them.
There’s about as close to a ‘panty-shot’… or in this case, a ‘boxer-shot’ as it really comes with him, but it’s a nice view anyways. Nicely sculpted also, I think.
The only other thing that really bothers me about Hideyoshi’s sculpt is that they started to make the crease down the sides of his pants… but they never finished it all the way down. It’s a minor annoyance when I view him up close, but it’s unnoticeable from afar.
He has a nice butt.
Cute messy hair.
Something that’s been bothering me in general with Alter lately is the lack of quality in their bases. Sure, they make cute bases – Hideyoshi’s is a star! Yay! But he doesn’t quite fit all the way onto his base. During another photoshoot I did last week of the 1/8 Azusa, the two pegs in one of her feet broke. I’ve heard that others have had the pegs break when they haven’t even touched her. So I’m not very happy with Alter in that regard. Fix the bases you make, guys!
Better picture of his feet on the base. One foot has two pegs and it’s secure… the other foot has one peg and his foot hardly even touches it. I have to admit I’m slightly worried about leaning or falling even though I doubt he will.
A picture of the base itself for good measure – it IS pretty cute. I like that it isn’t the regular round base they’ve been using lately.
Those of you that know Bakatest know about the Shoukanjuu in the series. They’re the little fantasy creatures that each student has one of. They’re to help fight against other classes. To learn more, visit the MAL page, since it’s too much to really describe here.
I’m really glad Alter did such a nice job on Hideyoshi’s little shoukanjuu, it’s really adorable! Quite small, too – he’s a little smaller than a Nendo Puchi. His head moves back and forth and is removable, and his weapon is also removable.
Such a cute little guy. =3
His base is really nice… I’d actually argue that it’s nicer than Hideyoshi’s is, as far as the pegs go – they’re metal! I was rather surprised to see that, to be honest. I was definitely expecting plastic pegs just like Hideyoshi’s are.
Hideyoshi with his shoukanjuu. ~
And finally, a wallpaper for anyone that might like it. =3
Overall, I do have to admit that Hideyoshi is a pretty dull figure. Because of the pose, you have limited ways you can really view him without it looking awkward due to the size of his head and hair. It’s a rather nice figure nonetheless, however, and I do suggest that anyone that likes traps, likes Hideyoshi, or can deal with a male figure in the midst of pulling down his pants pick him up. He’s well sculpted, well painted, and everything I’d expect from Alter (besides of course the little things and the problem with his base ), and he has a cute little summoned creature to go with him.
I do keep hearing, however, about a box that also came with them, but I hadn’t seen it in the box at the time of the review and didn’t actually even remember to look until tonight. Turns out it’s the little empty box with the oranges on the sides in the show. It’s something you have to cut out, however, so I doubt I’ll actually get around to that since I’d rather just have it kept the way it came. The user shots of Hideyoshi on MFC have pictures here and there, though, so definitely check those out if you’re curious.
Until next time. ~

I didn’t realize this figure existed, I thought almost all the men Alter figures went under the name “Altair” these days. I definitely thought this fellow was a girl, but that’s not the first time I’ve said that in the figure collecting world and I’m sure it won’t be the last. Generally I don’t care for bent over poses (there are exceptions though). But there is no srguing the figure is well done even if it is simple.
Amazing. *_* I really like his shoukanjuu.
