I wasn’t quite sure what to expect with Aquamarine considering IA’s only their third release. I ordered her anyway, however, because it’s IA and it’ll probably be the only IA figure we’ll ever get. So I restrained myself from reading all the comments about how people didn’t want to order her because she’d be a leaner, or because they didn’t trust a new company, or whatever else.
Now that I have her I certainly can’t say she’s everything I hoped for, personally. She’s definitely not the best figure out there, or even close to the same that you can expect from top companies. But I was relatively surprised that she’s as nice as she is.
One of the things I was wondering before I got her was how she attached to her base. It turns out that she’s actually attached already and you just have to put the clear poles into the base itself to keep her hair held up so it doesn’t lean further down than it should.
Her eyes also aren’t the same as the original promotional pictures showed. They were glossy and a bit prettier, but it seems they toned it down quite a bit for the mass production.
The pink paint on her shirt, however, is definitely a bit messy. And while the white paint is in the lines, it’s not complete, definitely some messups there. At least it’s not outside the lines, however.
Unfortunately there’s a paint mess there too, though. It looks like there was a bit of a dent in the molding and then when they went to paint over it, it painted right over the dent! So it’s a bit white right there where it should be pink.
And there’s the first clear peg! It doesn’t work quite properly because the bigger part of the peg itself rests on the hair to the side of the hole instead of actually going into the peg hole. But it works well enough and it’s not like it’s obvious that it doesn’t go all the way in.
The second pole doesn’t actually have a hole, but instead rests comfortably between tufts of hair. This pole actually made me nervous to place, because the hair is such hard pvc that I felt like it could break trying to move it up that high.
Of course, I don’t have any real issue with all the imperfections, because it is IA, and it is a new figure manufacturer. She’s really pretty even with the issues, and they did a great job on her pose and the overall feel of the figure.
So there’s Aquamarine’s IA! She has a lot of flaws, so she’s a bit too expensive with all of that, but her pose, her face, and the overall feel of the figure made it a worthwhile buy for me. <3 I’m really glad to have her in my collection, and with her it means I have another Vocaloid character on my shelf besides Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, and Gumi! Slowly I’m amassing a pretty good collection instead of just a crapload of Miku! <3
Did anyone else get her, or are you on the fence about her? Hopefully if you’re on the fence this helps you in whichever direction you’re thinking about this figure!
